Barberton couple assessed $426 in court fees over unpaid $10 city tax bill
reminds me of the time I was willing to pay Columbus to make $10 in bills go away. They insisted on the money and documentation. I wound up spending about 20 hours, but got a $26 refund.

Vista: DOA in the Enterprise?
Microsoft Watch - Vista - Vista: DOA in the Enterprise: "The year-to-year, or wave-to-wave, surveys are yet another dismal pronouncement on the state of Vista adoption among businesses. The numbers are grim, and there's not much spin I could put on them, even if I were so inclined. I'm not. The data should always tell the story—and there's a whopper here.
The really bad news for Microsoft: the number of business PCs running Windows XP increased from 2007 to 2008—three times the increase in the percentage of PCs running Vista."
... Much more at the web site. Some interesting numbers and charts. I personally like Vista, but the security is a pain and many things just work better in XP. My most recent struggle is trying to get Mobile OneNote to sync correctly with Windows Mobile Device Center, an issue many OneNote people seem to have in Vista. Microsoft? The ball is in your court.

Google announced today another step in what its engineers see as that inevitable evolution. A new free service from the Mountain View, Calif., tech giant will allow any Web site to become a social site."

Opinion: Console Downloadable Games? Too Cheap
A provocative piece arguing that perhaps we should pay more for XBLA games...
GameSetWatch - Opinion: Console Downloadable Games? Too Cheap: "So, I'm going to imagine that this may not be one of the most popular opinion pieces I've ever written, given that it advocates that all you wonderful XBLA and PSN consumers should be paying more for your downloads. But here's my underlying thesis - that after the 'honeymoon' period when there are only a few titles on the services garnering larger amounts of downloads, the $10 average pricing for downloadable console titles may not enough to sustain indie developers - especially given that games are often barred from appearing on rival networks."

Print Story: Photo clues lead to camera's owner on Yahoo! News: "At dusk on New Year's Eve, Erika Gunderson got into a taxi in New York City and entered a digital-age mystery.
Sitting on the back seat was a nice Canon digital camera. Gunderson asked the driver which previous passenger might have left it, but the cabbie didn't seem to care. So Gunderson brought it home and showed it to her fiance, Brian Ascher. They decided that the only right thing to do was to find the owner."

'72 Dolphins don't want to face the truth
OK...The only thing that might make me actually want to root for the Patiots. I'm including a few good points, but it is worth reading through on the link:
FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - '72 Dolphins don't want to face the truth
"They win on February 3, and they're the second-best team in the history of the NFL," said Morris. "We're the first team. ... If they win, they're going to be the second team."
The '72 team benefited from one of the easiest schedules in NFL history. ..
Bash the Patriots and their coach all you want. I do. Just understand that with a game left to play, they are nothing if not tested, as their regular season included victories over six playoff teams — the Colts, Cowboys, Chargers, Steelers, Giants and Redskins. Now, go back and check the '72 Dolphins. Their regular season included only two games against teams that finished better than .500 — the Vikings and the Giants, who were both 8-6 that year. The combined won-loss record of their opponents was 43-86-3...

HITLER WAS EVEN SICKER THAN YOU THOUGHT
Very interesting article - worth a click-through!
THE MADMAN AT THE BREAKFAST TABLE | More Intelligent Life: "It may sound like a Woody Allen scenario, but medical historians are unanimous that Adolf was the victim of uncontrollable flatulence. Spasmodic stomach cramps, constipation and diarrhea, possibly the result of nervous tension, had been Hitler's curse since childhood and only grew more severe as he aged."

Coach endures unthinkable loss one second at a time
Probably the saddest thing you'll read today:
NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com: "THATCHER, Ariz. -- Tim Parmeter pulled into the driveway and clicked and clicked and clicked his garage door opener, probably pushed the thing four or five times, best he can remember. But the door never opened. So he shook his head.
He just thought his estranged wife had changed the code like she had changed the locks, because that's the kind of stuff people do when they're going through a divorce. And it was a messy divorce"
